General Purpose of job
Under general supervision to supervise security personnel, accomplish daily activities, maintain activity records/reports and to perform related duties as required for the protection and safety of staff, patients, visitors and property at Driscoll Children's Hospital.
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise the job classes of security officers; dispatch/console operator.
Supervise the day-to-day operations of the security officers and dispatch/console operator.
Train, schedule and assign daily work tasks to security officers and dispatch/console operators.
Attain and maintain competent knowledge of hospital layout including newly constructed areas and direct training of other security personnel.
Evaluate individual officer and group effectiveness in accomplishing their assigned objectives on regular basis.
Coordinate activities and efforts to guard hospital property against fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry.
Develop and implement processes/procedures to effectively monitor departing personnel and visitors to guard against theft or damage to hospital property.
Execute timely notification of the appropriate law enforcement agencies when or as needed in cases of unauthorized persons on hospital campus or law violations.
Conduct interviews, investigations, and produce documentation (on appropriate forms provided for use by supervisory staff) regarding reports of property damage, unusual occurrences, criminal activity or malfunctioning equipment,
Ensure appropriate administration of procedures involving pick-up and delivery of money or items of value from assigned locations to assigned destinations.
Investigate and follow up on reports submitted by security personnel; to include but not limited to thefts, burglaries, domestic disputes, accidents and child custody situations.
Input data for reports using basic computer skills.
Patrol hospital buildings, grounds and parking lots (on foot and/or in security vehicle) to ensure a safe environment for employees, employee vehicles, visitors and visitors’ vehicles.
Patrolling will require stair climbing, running, standing, walking (level, incline and/or decline surfaces).
Examine doors, windows and gates as needed to determine that they are secure.
Detaining/apprehending patients and /or individuals posing a threat to staff, patient or visitors.
Observe and report irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes and security doors left unlocked.
Learn and maintain an acceptable knowledge level of the hospital alarm systems and know how to activate alarms in case of fire.
Monitor and confirm authorized persons entering hospital property.
Register at watch stations to record time of inspection trips.
Direct and control vehicle and pedestrian traffic in employee and visitors parking areas in normal and abnormal situations.
Through daily interaction instruct hospital employees and visitors on personal safety and property loss prevention
Assist employees or visitors when needed with lifting, pushing or pulling misc.
items (such as luggage, barricades) or tire changing.
Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
Adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
Demonstrate business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
Act in the capacity as a Training Sponsor or Proctor with new employees to setup class room training to complete required training.
Assist with evaluating and interviewing employment applicants for Security Officer positions.
Identify, assess, develop and implement security and safety programs and training for Security and Hospital Staff.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
