5200 - Position Type: Full-Time Status: Open Until Filled Job Description Under general supervision, the Lark Recreation Supervisor assists in providing a diversified, comprehensive recreation program for youth and adults throughout the City of McAllen, promoting education of present trends in lifetime leisure activities, sound health concepts, a better environment and quality of life.
This involves assisting in the planning, developing, implementing and administering of specialized programs for youth and adults.
This position performs administrative tasks in keeping with city's schedules, policies and employment requirements.
Job Responsibilities 1.
Coordinates the direction of the recreation division of the Lark Community Center with Community Center Manager.
2.
Recruits, interviews, and manages assigned program staff and volunteers.
3.
Prepares and maintains schedules, time sheets, registration information, and daily/monthly/yearly reports that apply to staff and volunteers.
4.
Coordinates public recreation programs at community center and on city-owned, rented or borrowed facilities.
5.
Prepares and presents recreation program development and assessment with Community Center Manager.
6.
Assist in Recreation Program development to ensure that programs are successfully implemented, and that cost, schedules, and quality levels are adequately maintained, and that personnel and volunteers are fulfilling their responsibilities.
7.
Assists the Deputy Director of Programs or Marketing & Events Administrator in planning, developing, and implementing special events.
8.
Conducts training sessions and workshops to prepare staff and volunteers to adequately perform their responsibilities.
9.
Responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing special recognition and incentive programs/events for program volunteers.
10.
Assists the Community Center Manager in the preparation and distribution of marketing material, including pamphlets, brochures, departmental literature and media coverage in an effort to promote departmental program.
11.
Meets with community and school organizations to develop plans and propose programs.
12.
Assist with the budget planning process, and prepares regular financial reports and surveys showing participation, expenses and income on various programs as directed by Deputy Director of Programs.
13.
Manages emergency situations as they occur.
Responsible for proper documentation concerning all accidents and incidents as per city policy (i.
e.
, falls, cuts, etc.
) 14.
In times of crisis (hurricane, flood, etc.
) assists in coordinating and operating shelter facilities under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Director.
15.
Performs related work activities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Minimum Requirements - 1.
Job requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Public Recreation, Physical Education or related field.
2.
Job requires three (3) years experience in recreation, sports activities, and/or special events.
3.
Job requires a current, valid Texas Class C driver's license 4.
Must have a knowledge of safety practices and first aid.
5.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals financial reports, legal document and government regulations.
6.
Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from outside organizations, customers or citizens.
Physical Requirements 1.
Position involves working indoors and outdoors with exposure to weather elements.
2.
Position requires working evenings, weekends, holidays, special events, and during emergencies as needed.
3.
Involves sitting, standing, driving.
Additional Information 1.
This position has driving responsibilities and is considered a safety sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
2.
Position has supervisory responsibilities.
