POSITION SUMMARY Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs, and controls Magic Valley Electric’s Division Engineering Department to ensure maximum utilization of personnel, material, and financial resources and provides for the long range system requirements through the design, preparation of specifications for the construction and maintenance and inspection of distribution lines.
II.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS A.
Reports to: Division Manager B.
Supervises: Engineering Assistants, Mapping Technicians, and Staking Technicians III.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES A.
Directs all distribution engineering activities including system design, long and short range planning, system improvements and the development of operating policies and procedures.
Establishes engineering standards.
B.
Coordinates/prepares bid specifications and contracts for Distribution additions.
C.
Prepares system studies, analyzes, and makes recommendations based on studies.
D.
Reviews RUS Engineering and Construction Bulletins and recommends and needs for corrective action.
E.
Ensures that all department personnel receive training, understand and comply with all safety rules and regulations.
F.
Ensures proper stocking level in Division Warehouse.
G.
Observes all safety rules.
H.
As a member of the management team, this position is responsible for the provision of a full range of supervisory activities including but not limited to the selection, training, and evaluation of section personnel, planning, and the completion of special projects as delegated.

Member-Consumers: Responds to consumer inquiries, resolves problems, provides advice and assistance and/or refers to appropriate staff member.
B.
General Public: Maintains good relations in all contacts with the general public.
C.
Consulting Engineer, RUS Field Engineer, and Contractors: Confers with, advises, informs, and coordinates activities.
Required Experience I.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS Job Knowledge, Training and Experience: This position requires the application of engineering theory and practice in carrying out its major responsibilities.
This is normally obtained through the completion of a four-year degree program in electrical engineering.
Five years progressively responsible experience as an electrical engineer in an electric utility is required.
This experience should include exposure to all aspects of design for the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines.
Previous supervisory experiences preferred.
Must have a thorough understanding of Cooperative’s policies, procedures, service rules, and regulations.
Should be familiar with RUS Materials Specifications.
This position requires an in-depth understanding of the National Electrical Safety Code.
Equipment Operated: Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Must be able to operate computer terminals and personal computers and other standard office equipment.
Abilities and Skills: Should be skilled in training, motivating, and evaluating assigned personnel in order to obtain the highest degree of productivity and the development of individual capabilities.
Must be able to organize work to meet deadlines.
Prepares reports and other documents which require a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Physical Effort: Must be able to perform the activities as listed in the position description.
Frequent filed trip to inspect completed work is required.
Activities are performed driving, sitting, and walking.
Working Conditions: Outside work in all kinds of weather may be required.
Irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Some travel outside the system may be required.
After an offer of employment has been made, a physical is required which will include both drug and alcohol testing.
