Responsibilities:
POSITION SUMMARY: Directs all system activities related to the Infection Prevention and Control Program, including educational program development, consultation to departments on matters of infection control, and ensure ongoing organizational compliance with regulatory agency protocols.
Maintains goals and objectives of the Infection Prevention & Control Department.
Responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating the STHS Infection Prevention and Control program.
Develops and maintains standards of infection control as set forth by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS), The Joint Commission (TJC), APIC, CDC, other regulatory bodies and the policies and procedures of STHS.
Serves as a resource person related to Infection Prevention & Control to any hospital employee/physician/senior management.
Develops continuing Infection Prevention & Control program activities based on staff, departmental, facility and system needs.
Maintains department records of all surveillance reports and presented such reports to appropriate committee meetings.
Works with STHS directors to address identified Infection Prevention & Control performance improvement activities to assure all aspects of Infection Prevention & Control practices are met.
Assists in entering infection control data in the IC Module of MIDAS.
Attends advanced training related to IP practices.
Ensure that required IC data is submitted to the NHSN databank.
Ensures required reports are submitted to Hidalgo County Health Department, TDSHS, and/or CDC timely.
Represent the IP&C program throughout STHS and the community.
Conduct an annual IP&C Risk Assessment and utilize the results to develop the IP&C Plan for the next year.
Reviews and enforces the STHS Pandemic Plan.
Maintain membership and certification with APIC.

Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.
Must have and maintain current BLS certification.
2.
3 to 5 years’ experience in infection prevention
3.
APIC Basic IC Course, Critical Care or Operating Room experience preferred.
4.
Demonstrates competency and professionalism in verbal and written communication.
5.
Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.
EDUCATION / LICENSURE:
1.
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Microbiology or related science.
Master’s preferred in Nursing, Education, Epidemiology or related field.
2.
Must have and maintain current BLS certification, according to unit specific needs.
Certification must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA, for Healthcare Provider’s Program.
3.
Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred.
4.
If RN will have BLS upon hire (and maintain through employment).
5.
APIC Basic IP Course and Certification preparation course preferred.
6.
Must be able to travel between STHS facilities as needed in position.
