Location: Finance, Pharr, TX 78577 Department: Utility Billing Job Status: Full-Time Shift: 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM Hours Per Week: 40 Rate of Pay: $22,880.

00 Status: Accepting and Reviewing Applications JOB DESCRIPTION General Statement of Duties A cashier's duties entail responsible clerical work, which involves receiving and accounting for cash, and negotiable instruments accepted from the general public.
Work is performed under direct supervision.
Essential Functions • Maintain regular, reliable, and prompt attendance, physically present to work.
• Receives payment by cash, check, or automatic debit (when available).
• May answer telephones, set up accounts, close accounts, post invoices, prepare routine billings, and file cashier documents, daily basis.
• Issue receipts, refunds, credit, or change due to citizen.
• Prepares bank receipts for bank deposit, prepares daily cash reports and balances the cash drawer; reconciles cash and checks receipts daily, and resolves any out-of-balance problems.
• Counts money in cash drawer at the beginning and end of shift to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change.
• Greet citizen, with a smile & courteous.
• Maintain clean and orderly cashier area.
• Establish or identify prices of services and tabulate bills using calculators and cash registers.
• Resolve customer complaints.
• Answer customer's questions, and provide information on procedures or policies; and • Performs other duties as assigned.
Characteristics of the Class This position is responsible for receiving and recording cash/check payments.
Incumbent will also balance cash receipts against register tape on a daily basis and the handling of walk-in inquiries, and other related activities.
The cashier is under the direct supervision of the Utilities Supervisor.

• Projects currency and coin requirements and reorders as necessary.
• Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
• Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
• Compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data.
• Providing information to supervisor, coworkers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person; and • Keeping up to date technically and applying new knowledge to your job; and • Perform other work as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time, non-exempt position, with a 40-hour work week.
Incumbent must have the ability to work flexible hours including holidays, evenings, and weekends, if needed.
Participation in City sponsored special events, trainings, or meetings may be required.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
Some experience as a cashier or related work.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, Knowledge of arithmetic, and their applications.
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.

The ability to operate a cash register, proof encoder and other office machines.
Physical Requirements Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls.
Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
No significant walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, crawling, handling, standing, pushing, and pulling.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
