DHR Health - US:TX:McAllen - Days Summary: POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for performing all Breast Ultrasound procedures in a timely manner.
Performs procedures according to Physician’s orders in the patient’s chart or per prescription on outpatients.
As a member of the Radiology team, the Breast Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for working collaboratively with other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of patient care.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS : Associate of Science degree in radiology, diagnostic ultrasound, or a certificate of successful completion from an accredited school of ultrasound or recognized educational program.
Current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) general certification or American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) certification in breast ultrasound required.
Current American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) certification in Mammography preferred.
Must meet all MQSA Technologist requirements, if certified by ARRT in Mammography.
BLS certification required, ACLS recommended.
At least one ( 2 ) years of experience as General or Breast Sonographer.
At least one ( 1 ) year experience in a healthcare setting as Mammographer preferred.
Must be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
Secretarial experience and organizational skills are necessary.
Good verbal and written communication skills required.
Ability to read, write, and speak English required.
Spanish preferred.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians.
Hospital experience preferred.
Computer knowledge required.

Must have a firm knowledge in anatomy and pathology.
Present images and preliminary findings to physicians and the healthcare team.

Responsibilities: POSITION RESPONSIBILITES: Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures.
Performs necessary quality control and maintenance on equipment.
Responsible for the care and cleanliness of equipment, supplies, and work area.
Responsible for performing all Breast Ultrasound procedures in a timely manner.
Performs Breast Ultrasound procedures as per procedure protocols, optimizing imaging examinations to use only the radiation necessary to produce diagnostic-quality images.
Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders and directions.
Assumes responsibility for the collection and processing of patient specimens.
Completes accurate documentation on patient records according to policy.
Able to perform the necessary functions on the facility's computer systems.
Ensures exams are verified and completed for charging on PACS/RIS systems.
Responsible for training Breast Ultrasound technologists with the appropriate procedure protocols.
Maintains Texas Department of Health (TDH), American College of Radiology (ACR), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and Joint Commission standards.
Maintain equipment and procedure competencies.
Able to operate all appropriate clinical equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
Complete and update all employment requirements, including HealthStream, Employee Health, and Radiology Competencies, Credentials, etc.
Must be willing to train in other areas, when needed.

Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise.
There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.
