Scope of Job
The School of Art & Design at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) occasionally needs to hire Part-Time Lecturers (multiple subject areas) to start Fall 2024 and/or Spring 2025 to teach in its Bachelor’s/Master’s program in the Edinburg/Brownsville campuses.
Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction in the program, advising students, and participating in scholarship activities serving the college, university, or local communities as needed.
UTRGV faculty are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the missions of the university, college, and program.

Teaching assignments include Art Appreciation, Art Education, Art History, Drawing/Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, Foundation, Jewelry, Design, Studio Generalist, Ceramic, Photography, Computer Graphics, Graphic Design/Visual Communications, Intermedia and Graphic Design.
Minimum Qualifications The qualifications to be considered as a part-time lecturer in 2-D & 3-D Studio require a Master of Fine Arts degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in the specific subject area from an accredited institution.
The qualifications to be considered as a part-time lecturer in Art History and Art Education are 18 graduate credit hours in the specific subject area and an M.
A.
, or Ph.
D.
in a related field of study from an accredited institution.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications 18 credit hours in a related studio area and experience teaching various studio and foundations courses, the ability to demonstrate strong technical skills in the teaching area, as well as the use of related software specific to the discipline.
Part-time lecturers hired to teach Art Appreciation will be required to attend a training workshop in August (one day) on the use of Blackboard and common online text.
The inability to attend training may result in the cancellation of assignments.
Preferred Qualification Teaching experience is desirable, as well as the ability to use technology to support teaching and learning.
Preference is given to applicants willing to teach at both the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses.
University-level teaching experience preferred.
Salary Part-time Lecturers are paid per course taught commensurate with experience and/or qualifications.
The appointment is contingent upon the enrollment and scheduling needs of the Art program.

This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
Please Note Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.
