Department/College Background: The Department of Health & Human Performance in the College of Health Professions is seeking qualified candidates who have a demonstrated record of success in research, teaching, and professional service in the health, health education, health promotion, or public health field that are commensurate with an appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2024.
The position is a nine-month, tenure-track faculty position.
The responsibilities include establishing and maintaining a focused research agenda, procurement of external grants, participation in scholarly committees and taskforces, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in health education and public health, and performance of other duties assigned by the department chair.
Given that UTRGV is a distributed campus, faculty will be required to teach in a variety of settings incorporating technology and student engaged pedagogies to maximize student success and may be assigned to teach face-to-face, hybrid and/or online courses.
Service to the department, college, university, community, and professional organizations is an integral part of the faculty member’s responsibilities.
UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college and program mission and be committed to UTRGV’s guiding principles (https://utrgv.

Faculty is expected to actively engage in research/scholarship and seek external funding.
Faculty are encouraged to engage in basic, applied and/or translational research to address critical community and state needs.
Minimum Qualifications An earned doctorate in Health, Health Education, Health Promotion, Public Health, or related field from an accredited university.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications Candidates must be MCHES, CHES or CPH certified or eligible.
Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates with one or more years of post-doctoral research experience; a recent history of grant submission and/or procurement, and existing grant funding in place; and a record of professional experience in the fields of health promotion and public health.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
