Job Description
Under general supervision, the Library Clerk performs tasks related to the procurement, acquisition, and preparation of materials for the public.
The employee follows assigned workflow based on priorities of the department.
Decisions are guided by existing policies and established procedures.
Job Responsibilities
1.
Composes and produces routine electronic correspondence, form letters, lists, tables and other reports.
2.
Maintains work related data, files, documents, and records.
3.
Assists with cash handling responsibilities.
4.
Performs general operating tasks using basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft software applications to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
5.
Exhibits excellent customer service skills to both internal and external customers.
6.
Interacts with public in a friendly, courteous manner, using tact and diplomacy.
7.
Exhibits dependability and punctuality in regards to attendance.
8.
Performs business related tasks using specialized software to order and receive materials, and communicates with external vendors regarding orders and services.
9.
Logs receipts, packing slips, invoices.
10.
Communicates with vendor concerning any discrepancies.
11.
Acts as Procurement Card Liaison, which coordinates with library and city staff regarding the reconciliation of Procurement Card charges.
12.
Examines and selects materials for repair or withdrawal from circulation.
13.
Processes print and non-print library materials according to standard procedures.
14.
Must have experience, or be willing to train, in library database operations and use of Dewey Decimal Classification.
15.
Uses specialized integrated library software to locate and modify existing bibliographic records according to established procedures.
16.
Maintains accurate information within the specialized catalog database, such as verification of bibliographical data for materials including author, title, publication date, and other data.
17.
Performs library material transactions and resolves overdue, lost and damaged material issues.
18.
Collects fines and fees for overdue and lost materials.
19.
Performs data entry of borrower information, updates, and changes to patron accounts with accuracy.
20.
May assist with running reports as requested.
21.
Answers incoming calls and directs caller to the appropriate department.
22.
Assists with other duties related to library services.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Minimum Requirements - 1.
Job requires a high school diploma from an accredited high school or GED equivalent.
2.
Job requires one (1) year of related work experience.
3.
Job requires a current, valid Texas Class C driver’s license.
4.
Requires the ability to effectively communicate in English and Spanish.
Physical Requirements
1.
Employee works in an office setting with little hazard to health or body with adequate lighting, heating, and
ventilation.
2.
Must be able to bend, twist and carry up to 15 pounds.
3.
Must be able to walk, at a reasonable pace, throughout the facility.
Additional Information
1.
This position is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
2.
Position has no supervisory responsibilities.
3.
The work schedule may include working evening and/or weekend hours.
