The McAllen Swim Club (MSC) is an established non-profit, parent-run swim club that originated in 1963.
Since 1994, MSC has been home to nearly 5,000 participants and continues to produce many of the area’s top swimming performers, most of which compete at multiple levels each year, including UIL district, regional, & state competitions.
Throughout the years, our athletes have also gone on to compete at various national-level meets and many have gone on to swim at NCAA Div I, II & III Universities.
USA Swimming recognizes us as a Level 2 Club for being a parent-governed operation year-round with 2 competitive swimming seasons.
We strive to encourage kids to reach their fullest potential, display good sportsmanship & have a great time! MSC is a non-profit & member support an organization that relies on parent volunteers, fundraising events & local support to keep our team operational.
We currently operate out of two facilities, Nikki Rowe Natatorium and Boys and Girls club in McAllen.
Our mission is to promote the sport of swimming and, in the process, help develop the character of the individual swimmers.
Our goal is to foster a desire in swimmers to develop themselves to their full potential through self-discipline and an attitude of respect for themselves and others.
We aim to encourage an interest in swimming as a sport and life-long habit in a fun, safe, and family-oriented environment.
*General Function: * Under the direction of the Head Coach and by the goals and objectives of MSC, the Assistant Coach, is responsible for assisting in developing and implementing the team’s seasonal training plans for each of the 3 primary groups.
The assistant coach will also be responsible for leading our beginner/intermediate 12-14yr old group while familiarizing themselves with all of our groups so that they understand the team as a collective whole.
The ideal candidate will assist in planning coaches' meetings, team content, distribution of information to the team, and serve as “second in command” during swim meets or other team-sponsored events.
Must be willing and available to travel to local and out of town meets and will have reliable transportation.
We’re looking for someone who is passionate, enthusiastic, loves the sport of swimming and is driven to impact our community.
*Position Requirements: * Must have a competitive swimming background.
Must have an understanding of how children learn, while having the ability to communicate clearly and directly.
Communicate effectively with the coaching staff, team parents, board members, volunteers, swimmers & MSC partners.
*Essential Functions: * 1.
Build meaningful relationships with members and participants, and help members connect with one another and with MSC.

Work daily to nurture our swimmer’s potential and help improve their well-being 3.
Promote our team philosophies, mission statements, & Safe Sport measures 4.
Lead practices with care, excitement, and a positive attitude 5.
Ensure the safety of swimmers by following all standard facility rules and regulations 6.
Promote our development model to help swimmers progress to upper group levels.

Be on deck before swimmers begin practice to greet swimmers and parents.
8.
Attend and help run meets 9.
Communicate effectively with the Head Coach about daily practice procedures, emergencies, and information regarding swimmers and swim team well-being.
10.
Attend any MSC-sponsored team meetings & outings 11.
Provide corrective feedback that will enhance swimmers’ techniques.
12.
Maintain structure and discipline within a group setting, while encouraging and promoting student participation in a positive manner.
13.
Engage parents and cultivate relationships to create a collaborative swim team environment 14.
Conduct self in a professional, friendly, helpful, courteous and diplomatic manner.
15.
Perform additional tasks or duties as assigned by the head coach *Qualifications * 1.
Must obtain all USA Swimming Coaches Certification or ability to obtain coaches certification within the first 14 days of hire 2.
Able to exhibit practical solid teaching/communication skills 3.
Knowledgeable of stroke and skill techniques 4.
Knowledgeable of season/workout planning and dryland training/technique 5.
Prior coaching experience with athletes of all ages 6.
ASCA, USMS or other swimming certifications are preferred 7.
CPR/First Aid, Lifeguarding, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, USA Swimming Level 1 or 2 Swim Coach Accreditation 8.
If the current coach must be in good standing with USA Swimming 9.
Exhibit an energetic, enthusiastic, professional, and courteous demeanor at all times 10.
Enjoys working in a team environment and demonstrated a willingness to learn from and share knowledge with coworkers 11.
Punctual and reliable.
Maintains a neat and professional appearance at all times 12.
