The primary purpose of this position is to provide all students with guidance & support relating to the college admissions & financial aid process & components.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Master’s Degree in Counseling & Guidance or Educational Administration, required
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field, required
School Counselor Certificate, preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of HB5 Graduation requirements
Knowledge of post-secondary/College & Career Readiness
Strong communication skills (verbal/written)
Strong organization skills
Experience:
Two (2) years teaching experience, required
Working with at-risk student population, preferred
Coordinating/Planning events, preferred

Note: Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each person's job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.
Collaborate with campus staff, student advisors, parents/guardians, campus administrators, teachers) and community resources programs for the purpose of enhancing communication regarding college & career resources to students.
2.
Improve alignment of planning, implementation, documentation and follow up in preparing students for successful transition from high school to post-secondary institutions.
3.
Research targeted students and make personal contact (i.
e.
, phone, electronic, etc) with their parents/guardians for the purpose of scheduling meetings, to discuss reasons for completing high school, removing barriers in education and continuing in post-secondary education.
4.
Assist with the implementation of college readiness and learning activities to guide students through post-secondary processes and procedures.
5.
Disseminate financial aid information through the use of various media sources.
6.
Coordinate the planning for college ready meetings for the assigned campus.
7.
Work with administrators, counselors and teachers to provide students with TSI, PSAT, ACT, SAT and AP assessment information, preparation, and exam administration.
8.
Organize and conduct small group presentations with parents, students and community in order to successfully transition students from high school to post-secondary institutions.
9.
Equip students with tools, resources and skills needed to persist in college toward graduation and beyond.
10.
Collaborate and coordinate with College Admissions Specialist to work with students, the universities, community colleges, military, technical and vocational schools.
11.
Log and track students who have attended TSI, SAT, ACT and PSAT preparation sessions and who have challenged the examinations.
12.
Empower students to increase federal grants and other forms of aid to increase affordability.
13.
Practice Emotional Intelligence and contribute to the Emotional Intelligence development of students.
14.
Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.
15.
Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor (primary evaluator) in accordance with funding source guidelines.
