SUMMARY:
Primary function is to connect the home and school in a positive, respectful, and welcoming manner.
Will represent the school through thoughtful, meaningful and culturally appropriate communications.
Represent the parent/family by understanding the many challenges that occur in the community.
Works to bridge the gap between home and school by helping parents get the information and support they need to ensure their child’s academic and social success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Management
Serve as a liaison between school and home.
Facilitate and foster a positive working environment between home and school.
Make personal contacts and home visits
Organize materials and activities for parents/campus.
Survey parents to determine needs and assess effectiveness of the program.
Provide professional development and training to staff and families.
Have knowledge about Title I, Part A compliance
Engage parents to become full partners with the school by providing tips, strategies and ideas.
Develop a monthly calendar of events and/or newsletter
Communication
Interpret school program to parents in order to strengthen parental understanding of the individual student's needs and the school's role in the student's life.
Assists in providing parents with individual and small group instruction designed to meet individual needs of students in communication skills, health habits and development of self-concept.
Communicate regularly with parents by means of a newsletter, notes, and phone calls.
Attend all campus parental involvement meetings.
Cooperate and seek assistance from professional staff members.

Maintain confidentiality.
Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.
Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments.
Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The employee supervises parents and volunteers.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSES/EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED
Some experience working with children
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:
As required by the Texas Education Agency
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, students, parents, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to operate a personal computer and related software.
Ability to develop effective working relationships with parents, students, staff, and the general public.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk and talk or hear.
The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Moderate lifting is required.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
