JOB DESCRIPTION General Statement of Duties Under the general supervision of the After School Program Supervisor, the After School Program - Recreation Aide must possess the ability to effectively coordinate and instruct recreation programs while providing a safe and secure environment for elementary-aged students.
General and specific assignments are received and are usually under little direct supervision allowing latitude for use of independent judgment.
Essential Functions The primary duties for the incumbent include: ~ Supervise and assist children with homework, Arts & Crafts, and in the development of team work and social skills; ~ Effectively conduct recreational activities and follow lesson plans created by the On-Site supervisor; ~ Responsible for developing creative and innovative methods of instruction in an effort to enhance the interest of the participants; ~ Research or create recreational activities and games that can be implemented in the program; ~ Required to administer extreme caution and safety while administering recreation programs; ~ Maintain a clean facility and inspect for potential hazards; Must report broken equipment or hazardous areas to the appropriate supervisor immediately; ~ May involve occasional travel; ~ Will perform other related duties that is required and assigned.
~ Actively contribute and be involved during instruction and while supervising participants; ~ Must clock in and report to work site a minimum of 15 minutes prior to scheduled time; ~ Required to communicate clearly, courteously, and tactfully with students, parents, and the general public; ~ Must report accidents and incidents to direct supervisor and assist in any case of emergencies that may occur; ~ Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them overtime; ~ Collaborating with other employees to create a fun and safe environment; ~ Communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government and other external sources; ~ Responsible for administering good judgement about the overall safety and well-being of the participants and must possess the ability to contact the proper supervisors and authorities when necessary; ~ Must complete standard departmental incidents reports; ~ Will perform other related duties that are required and assigned.
Work Environment Work duties typically require both, indoors and outdoors, in different types of weather conditions to oversee program participants.
Physical Demands Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.
Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of technical related equipment.
Incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a part-time, non-exempt, seasonal position, with a 19-hour work week.
Incumbent must have the ability to work flexible hours including holidays, evenings, and weekends, if needed.
Participation in City sponsored special events, trainings, or meetings may be required.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: High school diploma or equivalent GED; 16 years of age or older; Possession of Valid Texas Driver"s License or Texas identification card; One (1) year of experience in child care, recreation, and/or athletics.
Must be able to physically exhibit and conduct program activities offered to participants.
Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge - Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able to establish a safe environment for recreation and athletic program participants; Knowledge of basic fundamentals and techniques of athletics, fitness, cultural/social activities and/or arts and crafts sufficient to be able to perform a variety of duties related to the work assignment; Knowledge of the techniques, principles and regulations of recreation, child care, and sports programs; Knowledge of lead work principles and practices sufficient to be able to teach children team work and resolve problems.
Abilities - Develop and administer recreation and athletic programs suited to the needs of the community; Plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the development and implementation of recreation programs; Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the working environment and with those contacted in the course of work; Retain a positive attitude towards students, parents, and the general public; Follow dress code; Actively contribute and be involved during instruction and while supervising students; Implement professionalism in the work place; Physical effort limited to lifting 20 to 30 pounds; work involves engaging in physical activities, standing, and walking from place to place.
