If you do not know the story of Caterina Texas, it's one you need to read .
A town destined for greatness in the mid 1920's but caught up between the railroad, a lack of water, and the coming Great Recession .
Read about the town here : https://www.
ksat.
com/news/local/2020/09/23/unique-texas-town-names-catarina/ Other than the town's interesting brief history the things that make this panoramic photo cool are these : First, it's big ! Measuring 43 inches long by 13.
5 inches tall in it's frame .
Many panoramic photos of the day were called yard long photos because they were 30 to 36 inches and many even less .
This is a statement piece .
Second is the condition .
Many old photos and especially this type show damage, dampness, creases from being folded or rolled up in storage .
Too often the picture is faded from many years hung in the sunlight .
This one is dry, clear and in beautiful condition with a perfectly suited newer frame and professional matting .
Third is the content of the photo .
This and other groups of business people were invited to attend an Excursion tour of the new " Boom Town " that they can invest in and be a part of .
This group labeled Winter Garden Farms Inc .
The man in charge of the event is Chas F.
C.
Ladd .
I'm simply guessing he is the big guy in the center .
with his arms around his ( daughters ? ) anyway if you know different or have more information about these people please let me know .
Many cars used that day to caravan down from San Antonio ( about 70 miles ).
Over on the right is a tire cover with a dealership name but I can't make it out .
Beautiful new buildings, Palm trees, and telephone lines across the land, and of course, the people who began to build Texas into the wonderful state it is today .
Also it the " Taft House " built by the Presidents half brother ( the house still exists and was moved to a different site by Governor Briscoe .
) I'm leaving the Rio Grande Valley at some point in January.
I'll be passing through San Antonio and I can meet you along I-35 and give it to you .
No shipping just safe delivery by me .
Please call if interested .
Lots of reflections here but in person it is clear as a bell and the contrast is great .
