Job Title Controller Classification Exempt Salary Grade/Range Pay Grade 3 ($54,094 - $81,141) Reports to Director of Finance Date revised February 19, 2024 DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective Responsible for all financial accounting functions including monthly close cycle, financial analysis, financial reporting and budgeting in accordance with general accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Responsible for providing the Director of Finance and senior management the information necessary for effective and efficient financial analysis and decision-making.
Responsible for direct oversight of the accounting department staff to ensure recording and reporting of all financial transactions in an accurate and timely manner.
Essential Functions Ensures the accurate and timely preparation of the organization’s financial statements and dashboard (income statement, balance sheet, debt schedules, cash balance, etc.
) for both internal and external reporting purposes.
Prepares year-end and other necessary general ledger transactions to close and balance the organization’s financial records.
Prepares the schedules, including, but not limited to land and land development, mortgage loans receivable, prepaid fixed asset and prepaid insurance, for the annual audit in a timely manner.
Prepares the annual budget.
Supervises and trains the accounts payable clerk, accountants, and accounting clerks.
Manages investments and debt, including covenant compliance and reporting.
Reconciles overhead allocation for both the organization and all its subsidiaries.
In coordination with the corporate risk manager, administers corporate insurance policies.
Ensures reconciliations are prepared on a timely basis for all accounts.
Assists in the posting and proper classification of all of the organization’s and subsidiaries’ transactions.
Performs internal auditing of transactions posted by the accounting staff to ensure accurate and timely posting.
Actively manages the accounts payable function to ensure payments are posted accurately and made in accordance with payment terms and discounts.
Prepares and verifies timely payment of property taxes and personal property renditions.
Reviews all draw requests prior to submission to the appropriate entity.
Meets deadlines for all reports requested, including, but not limited to NMLS and ORS.
Manages the Trust and HOA Accounts.
Ensures proper documentation of all transactions and the retention of source documents.

Supervisory Responsibility This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the Accounts Payable Clerk(s), Accounting Assistant(s) And accountant(s).
Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment.
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of the organization, including Saturday rotations, and is expected to work a minimum of 40 hours each week.
Travel Occasional travel outside of area related to training may be required of this position.
Required Education / Certification and Experience Graduation from an accredited University or College with a four-year degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA or MBA a plus 5 years of progressive experience in Finance and Accounting roles, with 2-3 years in similar role including direct supervision experience.
Solid understanding of and experience with general ledger, revenue recognition, cost accounting principles and tax.
Nonprofit industry experience highly desired.
Relevant Licenses/Certifications None.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications Fluent in English and Spanish language in both written and verbal styles.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Intermediate knowledge of database software; Internet software, accounting software, spreadsheet software and word processing software Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast paced, multi-location, multi-cost center environment balancing both strategic and tactical responsibilities.
Advanced level knowledge of Excel, Sage accounting and FICS mortgage servicing software.
Strong project management skills with superior multi-tasking abilities.
Carry-out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning and directing work assignments, conduct performance appraisals and problem resolution.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills couple with a high attention to detail.
Excellent analytical, planning and process development skills, strong business judgment and high level of initiative.
