POSITION EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of accredited school of nursing required
Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred
Current registered nurses license in the State of Texas or Compact State License required
Current BLS & ACLS Certification required
Current PALS & TNCC; if required
Computer skills preferred with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
Good written and verbal communication skills required.
Some evening or weekend work will be required
Bilingual – English/Spanish
JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of full-time hospital-based experience required
Knowledge of State, Federal, and JCAHO regulations.
POSITION REQUIRMENTS:
Ability to work in medical, surgical, and telemetry units
Two (2) shifts (24 hours) a week or four (4) shifts (48 hours) per pay period
One weekend a month (AM – Saturday & Sunday/PM – Friday & Saturday)
Must work one major, one minor holiday plus two high-need days per year
Must obtain and maintain all required certifications required by worked units
POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:
Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
Performs an accurate physical, emotional, and psychosocial assessment of assigned patients within established time guidelines.
Initiates appropriate plan of care and nursing intervention of assigned patients in a timely fashion.
Updates plan of care as necessarily based on continually assessment of patient response to care; demonstrates sound clinical judgment adaptable to patient changing needs.
Utilizes appropriate teaching/instruction methods for assigned patients.
Takes responsibility for all patient care assignments while maintaining quality assurance standards.
Demonstrates an ability to respond and to provide direction in changing workload, during crisis and emergency situations.
Reviews work in progress to ensure that all treatments, medications, and diagnostic tests ordered by the physicians are expeditiously and properly carried out.
Conducts pre-op physical assessment and notes all data accurately.
Initiates an Anesthesia consult when necessary.
Accurately administers medications and performs treatments in accordance with the medical plan of care.
Demonstrates knowledge of the nursing and administrative structure and chain of command; follows proper lines of communication.
Demonstrates knowledge of risk management and infection control policies and procedures.
Demonstrates knowledge in the use of equipment and devices pertinent to patient care, procedures, and practices.
Attends at least eight staff meeting each year.
Meets continuing education requirements and competencies for unit.
Demonstrates knowledge of the correct use of all forms required in the day to day operation of the unit.
Demonstrates familiarity of crash cart functions and supplies.
Provides proper notification and advanced notice for absences and tardiness.
Takes responsibility to complete annual physical within allotted time frame.
Appears well groomed and observes the hospital dress code; Wears identification badge while on duty; maintains a professional appearance.
Performance improvement shown following a documented verbal counseling on any of the above indicators.
Demonstrates knowledge of pre-op and pre-procedure requirements (ie:Labs,EKG) based on patients age,sex and health status.
Documents in a complete, clear, concise manner.
Countersigns dates and times physician orders.
Performs twenty four-hour review.
Provides legible charting and signature.
Consistently documents patient progress toward meeting specific outcomes.
Other duties as assigned.
