General Purpose of Job:
To prepare and deliver all formula and breastmilk feedings needed for patient use in NICU.

Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.

Keeps refrigerators and freezers clean where formula/ breast milk is stored.
Cleans and arranges all formula room cupboards and counters.
Defrosts formula/ breast milk room refrigerator/freezer as needed.
Checks NICU unit refrigerators for any expired formula/ breast milk.
Washes and sterilizes bottles and other equipment following sanitation procedures.
Prepares the formula/breastmilk feedings ordered for each patient by following computer orders.
Follows department policies and procedures for age appropriate formula preparations.
Mixes the formula/ breast milk additives to endure proper sterilization/sanitation of infant feeds.
Prepares labels for each bottle of formula/ breast milk (patient name , medical record number, expiration date/time, and feeding order).
Draws up formula/ breast milk into syringes/ bottles for feedings.
Delivers all formula/ breast milk to each nursing unit.
Has Registered Nurse verify label and initial Mom’s Place Feeding Log on receipt of feedings for correct patient and correct feeding order
Properly thaws breast milk under sanitary conditions and at accurate amounts as to not waste breast milk.
Prepares worksheets/kardex for following day.
Assures that all Mom’s Place kardexes are kept current; making changes as necessary.
Maintains quality assurance monitors as established (production lists/ temperature checks).
Prepares, handles, and sanitizes supplies for breastfeeding moms (breast feeding bags, supplies).
Issues new moms supplies needed for starting to pump.
Instruct moms on proper use of pump cleaning, procedure, and storage/labeling milk.
Assist mom in use of pumps and be knowledgeable in answering basic lactation questions.
Refer all moms to Lactation Consultant for follow-up.
Interacts closely with Dietitian in areas of uncertainty.
Takes inventory of mom’s Place supplies.
Attends all department and hospital in-services as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
English Language Skills.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations.
Food Handler’s Permit
